Africa-Press – Nigeria. Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has directed security agencies to investigate and arrest any individuals involved in the alleged harassment, illegal sealing of warehouses, or extortion of traders and shippers in the state.

He gave the directive on Thursday while receiving members of the Abia State Shippers Association, led by the association’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Olo Onuma, in his office.

Reacting to complaints raised by the association, the governor expressed concern over the alleged illegal activities against members of the Abia State Shippers Association, noting that he was receiving such reports for the first time.

“There is a government here. Any man who shows up in a warehouse and wants to break in or seal it illegally must be reported immediately,” Governor Otti stated.

“The matter must be thoroughly investigated, and all those involved must be arrested and made to face the provisions of the law,” Governor Otti said.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring and maintaining law and order, warning that extortion, self-help, or any form of lawlessness capable of undermining economic activities and public confidence would not be tolerated.

Governor Otti assured the shippers that his administration would continue to act in the best interest of the people.

On the proposed Abia Inland Dry Port project, Governor Otti said the initiative remains strategic but must be economically viable to attract patronage.

Olo Onuma, who spoke on behalf of the shippers, praised the governor for his achievements in Abia but alleged that some hoodlums are colluding with certain government officials to harass artisans, fabric dealers, and shoe and bag makers.
