Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects over alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving of stolen property.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, five of the suspects; Salim Zakari, 20; Faruk Abubakar, 17; Yusuf Garba, 20; Mastur Shehu, 19; and Safiyanu Suleiman, 23 were arrested after a complaint was lodged by Ayuba Muhammad.
He had reported that his tricycle was stolen on January 24, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m. in Panshekara Quarters, Kano.
The stolen tricycle, with registration number BBR 195 CB and KAROTA number KMC 1229, was valued at ₦3.5 million. Police said it was sold for ₦2.6 million.
The suspects also allegedly confessed to stealing another tricycle belonging to Abdullahi Adamu of Yankusa Quarters, Kano. That tricycle was reportedly sold for ₦2.7 million.
Police said further investigation led to the arrest of the sixth suspect, Umar Bello Dahiru, 24, who was said to have bought the tricycles. The two stolen tricycles were recovered from him.
The statement added that a horse valued at ₦800,000, allegedly bought with proceeds from the crime, was also recovered.
Police said Umar Bello Dahiru confessed to buying the tricycles knowing they were stolen.
The recovered tricycles have been handed over to their owners, Ayuba Muhammad and Abdullahi Adamu, while investigation into the case is ongoing.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to fighting crime and ensuring public safety under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police.
