Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Borno State Police Command has arrested two Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, for allegedly beating a 72-year-old man to death in Ngala Local Government Area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday at the ISS IDP camp in Ngala.

The suspects, identified as Modu Mohammed and Annami Modu, were said to have conspired and attacked the victim, Abba Mustapha, with sticks over allegations of witchcraft.

“They accused the deceased of bewitching the wife of one of them and causing her ill health. They beat him severely inside his house at the camp,” a source said.

Policemen stationed at the camp reportedly rescued the victim and rushed him to the General Hospital in Ngala, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The suspects were arrested at the scene, while four sticks used in the assault were recovered as exhibits.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy and later released to his family for burial in line with Islamic rites.

The Criminal Investigation Department, CID, in Maiduguri has since commenced full investigation into the matter.
