Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed concerns raised by the Nigerian Bar Association over the planned enforcement of tinted-glass permits.
following the planned resumption of the suspended motor vehicle tinted glass permit by the Nigeria police, the NBA threatened to initiate contempt proceedings against the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
The association cited previous court orders stopping the enforcement of the controversial policy.
However, in a statement on Friday, the police insisted that contrary to the NBA’s remarks, the Force has no plan to violate any court order, stating that the policy is legal, security-driven and compliant with court processes.
The statement, which was signed by the Force spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, insisted that NBA president Afam Osigwe misrepresented the move and falsely suggested that the Force was acting outside judicial control.
The Force Public Relations Officer also said that the insinuation that the policy was a revenue-driven initiative, is “incorrect and misleading”.
He stated that the Nigeria Police Force is not a revenue-generating organisation, explaining that the Force is “empowered by law to receive funds that accrue incidentally in the discharge of its statutory functions. Section 26(1)(f) of the Police Act, 2020 (as amended) expressly recognises this authority. This legal position is neither novel nor controversial.
“In balancing accessibility for legitimate applicants with the imperatives of national security and operational sustainability, the Federal Government approved the Police Specialized Services Automation Project, which received due approval of the Federal Executive Council, FEC in July 2022.
“The project is implemented under a lawful Public-Private Partnership, PPP arrangement authorised by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC Act, with the Nigeria Police Force partnering a licensed Information Technology infrastructure provider”.
