Africa-Press – Nigeria. Yobe State Association of Volunteer Teachers has accused the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, of sidelining their members in its recent recruitment exercise of 948 teachers across the state.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Chairman of the Association, Ali Abdullahi Amoroso, the group demanded critical answers from the Executive Chairman of the Board, Hassan Babayo, who was alleged to have informed the governor, Mai Mala Buni, that volunteer teachers in Yobe got a lion share in the recent recruitment exercise.
“We were asked by our respective Local Government Education Secretaries to submit the list of volunteer teachers in our respective local governments to their offices for consideration only for us to learn that our members have been sidelined in the recruitment.
“We request that the official list of the recruited volunteer teachers be made public within 48 hours to authenticate the claim of the Chairman”, Amoroso said.
The Yobe State Government had approved the recruitment of teachers to fill the vacuum in the primary and junior secondary school sections across UBE schools in Yobe.
But many allege that the State Universal Basic Education Board only gave priority to politicians in the recruitment exercise instead of merit.
