Africa-Press – Nigeria. Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has tasked the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to restore the lost moral values the Igbos were known for.
He said that the responsibility of bringing back those values of honesty, hard work, resilience, dignity, and respect for the elders now rests on all Igbo leaders.
The Governor made the call on Tuesday while receiving the executive members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Abia State chapter led by State President, Chukwuemeka Okwuonu.
Otti, who said that Igbos are not known for begging, surviving on handouts or depending only on government patronage, said his administration was creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The Governor urged the leadership of Ohanaeze to embark on programmes and projects that will inspire collective ownership, involvement and contribution of the Igbos in helping them realize their vision and mission for the people.
Otti, who informed the Ohanaeze Ndigbo members that a total of 4.1 billion naira has been donated to the recently launched Abia State Security Trust Fund, also promised to support the programmes of the Igbo organization.
Earlier, the President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Abia State Chapter, Chukwuemeka Okwuonu applauded Governor Alex Otti for making the Igbo language a compulsory subject in the primary and secondary school system in the State and for his achievements in office.
Okwuonu said that their vision was to establish structures of Ohaneze Ndigbo in every LGA of the State before the end of the year and encouraged the speaking of Igbo language among Igbo children and families in general.
