Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Special Adviser on Security to the Sokoto State Governor, Col. Ahmed Abdul Usman (rtd.), said the state government is open to dialogue with bandits willing to renounce violence and reintegrate into society.
Usman explained that such negotiations would be conditional, transparent, and closely monitored, stressing that it is not a blanket amnesty but part of a peace-building initiative aimed at lasting stability.
He said the government has adopted a multi-faceted approach to fighting insecurity, including equipping security agencies with patrol vehicles and motorcycles and establishing the Sokoto Community Guard Corps to support intelligence gathering and surveillance operations.
Usman noted that allowances for security operatives have been restored and that regular inter-agency meetings are held to coordinate responses to emerging threats.
On support for victims of attacks, he said relief materials, medical aid, and temporary shelters have been provided for displaced persons.
“Sokoto is open to dialogue with any bandits genuinely ready to lay down their arms. The priority remains defeating criminal elements, but if dialogue can prevent further bloodshed, it is a path worth exploring with caution,” he added.
