Africa-Press – Nigeria. Civil servants in Taraba State have called on Governor Agbu Kefas to sack the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Sarah Enoch Adi, over the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress ,TUC, that has paralysed government and economic activities across the state.
Most of the workers who spoke with our reporter during a monitoring visit on Tuesday noted that the commissioner should be held accountable for the crisis, which has led to the closure of ministries, departments, and agencies.
The alleged lukewarm attitude of the commissioner towards the recent biometric exercise, according to them, necessitated the ongoing industrial action embarked on by the workers.
It was observed that the gates of the Taraba State Secretariat in Jalingo, along with other government offices, remained locked, while NLC officials turned back civil servants who attempted to resume work.
The industrial action, declared after a joint decision by the NLC and TUC, has since spread to various sectors. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Taraba State University, TSU, chapter, had also announced its participation, further compounding the shutdown of public services.
Workers vowed to continue pressing their demands until government addresses the issues raised and takes decisive action on the commissioner’s role in the impasse.
