Africa-Press – Nigeria. Yobe State House of Assembly has given accelerated consideration to the bill seeking the establishment of a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission in the state.

The bill, which was presented by the executive arm of government, has passed its second reading after extensive deliberations by members of the House.

Leading the debate, Majority Leader Hon. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf emphasized that the commission would promote equitable representation, social justice, and prohibit discrimination against vulnerable persons.

According to Hon. Yusuf, the commission would foster a culture of inclusivity and respect for all individuals, regardless of their background, culture, or identity.

Hon Yusuf called on members of the House to support the bill for the establishment of the commission in view of its importance to the people of the state.

Members of the House, including Hon. Mohammed Isa Bello, Hon. Sanda Kara Bade, and Hon. Buba Ibrahim Kalallawa, supported the bill, describing it as apt and timely.

Presiding over the sitting, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, set up an ad hoc committee to work on the bill.

The committee, which will be headed by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, has been given two months to report back to the House for further legislative action.
