Africa-Press – Nigeria. The senator representing Yobe South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ibrahim Bomai, and APC governorship hopeful, has denied rumours that his meeting with some of the party’s chieftains in Abuja was a plot to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement on Thursday, Senator Bomai clarified that the meeting was convened solely to demand fairness, transparency, and a level playing field in the party’s upcoming primaries, in line with the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act.
He described claims of an impending defection to the ADC as “entirely false, baseless, and without any foundation.”
“I remain a committed, loyal, and steadfast member of the APC,” Bomai said.
In the statement, Bomai recounted joining the APC in 2019 when the party was in opposition in Yobe South, and how collective efforts helped the APC win nearly all elective seats in 2019 and consolidate power in 2023, losing only one House of Representatives seat.
Bomai called on party leadership to avoid the imposition of candidates and ensure every aspirant has a fair and equal opportunity.
“I reiterate my absolute loyalty to the APC and my readiness to abide by its principles of fairness, justice, and strict adherence to the Constitution and the Electoral Act,” he stressed.
