Africa-Press – Nigeria. Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued five kidnapped victims and pushed back bandits after an attack on travellers along the Maru–Mayanchi–Gusau road in Zamfara State.
According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, sources said the incident happened at about 6:40 p.m. on March 29 when armed bandits attacked two vehicles carrying passengers along the busy highway in Maru Local Government Area.
According to the sources, troops stationed at Forward Operating Bases in Mayanchi and Fangaltama quickly responded to a distress call and moved to the scene.
On getting there, the troops found that the attackers had killed one civilian and taken away 14 passengers.
“The troops immediately pursued the fleeing bandits along their withdrawal route and successfully rescued five of the abducted victims,” the source said.
Among those rescued were the wife of a serving military officer, Mrs Dami Nehemiah, her son, and three other passengers who were injured during the attack.
The wounded victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment.
Sources added that troops have continued to secure the area through aggressive patrols to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of commuters using the road.
