Africa-Press – Nigeria. HARARE, May 9 (NewsDay Live) – The Institute of Global Leadership and Administration (IGLA) and the Artificial Institute Africa will later this month jointly hold an artificial intelligence conference in Harare.

The conference will take place on May 22, 2025 at Golden Conifer in Mabelreign, Harare, under the theme The Future of Jobs: Is Labour Ready for AI?

According to IGLA executive director Taka Svosve, the event is designed to equip professionals and policymakers with the critical knowledge required to navigate the evolving AI landscape.

“The event is bringing together a rich pool of expertise from various sectors, including labour, human resources, trade unions, government, and senior executives from both the public and private sectors. These industry experts are well-versed in the latest technological developments,” Svosve said.

He noted that the conference would play a key role in dispelling many of the misconceptions surrounding AI and its impact on employment.

“This event is a platform for leading experts to share insights on the evolving role of AI in shaping the workforce and the broader economy,” he added.

Key discussion points will include the impact of AI on employment and wages, skills development, collective bargaining and labour legislation, productivity and shifts in human resources and workplace practices.

The conference comes at a time when the government is actively promoting the integration of AI, despite concerns from some quarters that increased automation may lead to job losses.

AI is widely believed to improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and reduce the time required to complete various tasks. In line with these developments, Zimbabwe has been championing innovation through its Education 5.0 policy framework.

In the forthcoming event, keynote speakers include prominent AI experts Dennis Magaya and Ephias Ruhode, labour law expert Rodgers Matsikidze, Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions president Florence Taruvinga and labour consultants Memory Nguwi and Request Machimbira.

Skills Audit permanent secretary Rudo Chitiga will be the guest speaker.

Chitiga is expected to address the importance of skills development and training for the effective adoption and implementation of AI.

She will also elaborate on the government’s policy direction regarding AI and the national skills development strategy.

“She will, therefore, offer key insights into Zimbabwe’s strategic approach to harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence,” Svosve said.
