Africa-Press – Nigeria. Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has revealed how the team was able to keep Egypt main man, Mohamed Salah quiet during their Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON Group D opener on Tuesday.
The Netherlands based goalkeeper hailed the defenders and midfielders for a job well done in silencing the Premier League highest goal scorer this season.
For the entire duration of the match, Salah only had one clear cut chance but was denied scoring.
Okoye, who was seemingly on a holiday for the whole of 90 minutes said the Super Eagles players stopped Salah by sticking to him throughout the contest.
The goalkeeper told reporters after the game, “Of course, he is one of the best players in the world, we also have fantastic defenders, fantastic midfielders so I think you could see that they were very sharp on him and he almost had no chance.
“It was great. Omeruo did very, very well, he shone in this game and he was very important for us.
“We have to continue to give our best for the country, for our families, and then we can reach very, very far.”
