Africa-Press – Nigeria. Algeria became the latest country to qualify for the last 16 of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Desert Foxes defeated Burkina Faso 1–0 in a tight contest on Sunday to secure their spot in the next round.
Captain Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot.
The result means Algeria, who won the AFCON in 1990 and 2019, have the maximum six points after two games in Group E.
The North Africans are ahead of Burkina Faso and Sudan, who both have three points each.
Algeria will now join Nigeria and Egypt as the only teams to have confirmed their place in the Round of 16.
