Africa-Press – Nigeria. Three Barcelona players, Gerard Pique, Miralem Pjanic, and Memphis Depay, are not in manager Xavi Hernandez’s plans this season.
According to Sport, Pique, Pjanic and Depay’s futures have been under speculation throughout the summer, with Xavi overseeing a huge rebuild at Camp Nou.
The trio are yet to play any minutes for Barcelona in the LaLiga so far this season, with the competition for places in Xavi’s squad having increased dramatically.
Pique, Pjanic and Depay have spent all of Barcelona’s fixtures on the substitutes bench and are yet to have been called upon by Xavi.
Pique has fallen way down the pecking order in Xavi’s squad, having been the squad leader last season.
The Spanish centre-back is now behind the likes of Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, and Andreas Christensen.
Pjanic has also fallen down the pecking order in Barca’s midfield, with the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Franck Kessie, Sergio Busquets, Gavi, and Pedri all ahead of him.
The Bosnian midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Turkish side Besiktas, was expected to leave Barcelona this summer but a move to Saudi Arabia failed.
Depay, meanwhile, had seemed to be out of the Catalan club this summer, with a move to Juventus being highly anticipated.
However, a proposed transfer to Juventus broke down, and the former Manchester United star has remained at Barcelona.
