Africa-Press – Nigeria. Nigerian champions, Rivers United have been handed a tough draw in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The draw ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, in Egypt on Monday afternoon.
Rivers United, who are Nigeria’s surviving club on the continent will battle Asec Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire, Motema Pembe of Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo’s Diables Noir in Group B.
The Port Harcourt-based team will travel away to Diables Noir for their first game on February 12, before they welcome ASEC Mimosas a week later.
Group A has: USM Algiers, Marumo Gallants, Al Akhdar and Eloi Lupopo, Group C consists of Pyramids FC, Asko De Kara, Future FC and ASFAR club while Group D housed TP Mazembe, US Monastir, Yanga SC and Real Bamako
The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockout rounds of the competition.
No Nigerian club have won the CAF Confederation Cup since it was founded in 2004.
