The 24-year-old arrived at Ibrox from Peterborough United last summer.
The centre-back has scored five times in 20 league appearances for the Gers.
Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has convinced the player to commit his international future to Nigeria.
According to the Ibrox News, Fernandez will join the Super Eagles for the upcoming friendlies next week.
The Super Eagles will take on 2026 World Cup-bound Iran on March 27 in Antalya, Turkey, before another friendly against Jordan four days later.
