U-23 AFCONQ: CAF dimisses Nigeria’s protest against Guinea

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has dismissed Nigeria’s protest against Guinea.

Guinea defeated the Olympic Eagles 2-0 on aggregate to qualify for the 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in March.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), however, protested that the Guineans fielded an overage player against the Olympic Eagles.

The Guinea Football Federation was able to establish the player in question, Alseny Soumah, who plays for Horaya FC is within the age limit.

Nigeria’s claim, according to FEGAFOOT was a case of mistaken identity as there were two different players with the name Alsény Soumah.

Cameroon were, however, lucky as they won their appeal against Gabon.

They will now replace the Gabonese in Group B of the competition.

The Gabonese got further sanction as they are barred from the next edition in 2028.
