Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda U20 coach Dominique Ntawangundi is targeting to qualify the country for the World Cup as his team gears up to compete against eight nations in the 2025 Men’s U20 African Nations Volleyball Championship, scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from September 11 to 25.
The squad departed for Egypt on Wednesday, September 10, at 4:45 pm to participate in the continental championship, which will also serve as a qualifier for the 2026 FIVB U21 Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
“When it comes to the youth national team, we’re always ready thanks to continuous training sessions aimed at uplifting and nurturing young volleyball talents. We know that the nation invests a lot in us, and we feel indebted to bring that victory home,” said Ntawangundi.
The 12-man squad, which was named after a month-long training camp, played friendly matches against local volleyball powerhouses like APR VC, Kepler and Rwanda Energy Group (REG).
According to Ntawangundi, these matches provided the technical staff with a clear picture of the team’s strengths and weaknesses.
“We’re heading to Cairo with a clear purpose to secure that ticket for the 2026 FIVB U21 Men’s Volleyball World Championship. We had enough time to prepare, and we are determined to ensure that Rwandans stand with us on this journey,” said team captain Tristan Kayiranga.
Rwanda is among eight countries confirmed for the African championship. Others include Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo, Morocco, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, South Sudan (making their debut appearance), and hosts Egypt.
