Africa-Press – Rwanda. All the 25 juveniles who sat for the 2022-2023 national examinations passed; with one scoring the highest marks in Primary.
Twenty of them sat for Primary Leaving Exams and passed, with the first one scoring 30 while the last scored 11.
The other five O’ Level students passed as well, with 45 marks being the highest and 22 the lowest mark.
Daniel Kabanguka, the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) spokesperson, told The New Times that: “The students had enough time to study. Their teachers always helped them, and the leadership of the facility was also there to help.”
He noted that juvenile inmates also performed well even in previous years.
According to the 2021 results, out of the 27 candidates, 23 were PLE candidates and 15 passed in the first division, while the rest were in the second division. All four O’Level candidates were in the first division.
Kabanguka warned against children’s involvement in crimes regardless of the special treatment they get in RCS facilities, noting that “no child deserves to be in correction facilities” and that, therefore, children need to stay away from crime.
