Africa-Press – Rwanda. Despite the current struggles, Rwanda women’s national team assistant coach Theogenie Mukamusonera is convinced the team will be a force to reckon with in two years.
Mukamusonera was in charge on Tuesday, September 26, as Rwanda lost 5-0 to the Black Queens of Ghana in Accra in the second leg of the 2024 WAFCON qualifier.
She maintains that they have learnt a lot from Ghana and they will build on it to become a top team in few years.
“The game was very tough. Ghana is stronger, they have good experience,” Mukamusonera stated in the post-match press conference.
“Even as we are learning from Ghana, we are getting some experience, and we are correcting some mistakes. I believe in two years’ time we can be on a different level. It was a very good game for me.”
Mukamusonera emphasized that her side did well in the second leg as they were able to battle Ghana in the midfield, a department they were very porous in during the first leg.
“The performance of the second leg was not bad because we brought in some players, especially midfielders. Ghana mostly used that department in the first leg. We were very compact in midfield this time and it was good.”
Great experience playing against a better team
The national team goalkeeper Angeline Ndakimana said the game against Ghana was good international exposure for her as it will build her confidence.
“It’s a great experience playing against a better team, you often learn from the mistakes you’ve made, knowing how to stop players when they continue to put pressure on us helped us a lot,” Ndakimana told Times Sport.
“It was an experience for me, and I have learnt many things from the game which will help me, going forward.”
Ghana qualified to the next stage of the qualifiers on a 12-0 aggregate after winning the first leg 7-0 in Kigali.
