All adults targeted in new vaccination campaign

Africa-PressRwanda. Rwanda Biomedical Center has rolled out a vaccination campaign targeting Rwandans above 18 years of age. As it kick-starts in Kigali city on Monday, August 23, the campaign will last for two weeks in its first phase, according to the national biomedical center.

“All people above 18 who want to get vaccinated are required to visit their sector offices from Monday, August 23 with their Identity cards,” read the RBC’s note on the decision.

It is wise to note that the city of Kigali was the starting point as it is among the leading Covid-19 hotspots in the country. The adults come in after the previous vaccination campaigns were targeting the elderly, frontline workers and other people with high-exposure jobs.

At least 980,000 Rwandans are already vaccinated, as the government seeks to inoculate 30% of its population by the end of 2021 whereas the wider plan is to have 60% of the population inoculated by June 2022. In the recent cabinet meeting, the government has urged all Rwandans eligible to get vaccinated so as to make sure they are safe from Covid-19
