Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR FC were held to a 1–1 draw by a resilient AS Kigali side in a tense league encounter played on Friday at Kigali Pélé Stadium.

The result leaves APR in second place with 15 points, level with Musanze FC and Gasogi United, who still have fixtures to play on Matchday 9 against Police FC and Amagaju FC respectively.

Meanwhile, AS Kigali moved 11th place with nine points.

APR opened the scoring in the 41st minute through Bosco Ruboneka, who was later named player of the match. The midfielder converted from a set-piece after Claude Niyomugabo was fouled near the goal line by Didier Ndayishimiye. Ruboneka’s effort squeezed in at the near post to give the champions the lead.

APR went into halftime leading 1–0, but AS Kigali responded swiftly after the break. In the 49th minute, Ndayishimiye redeemed himself by finishing off a well-placed cross from Arsene Tuyisenge who playing against his former club.

APR dominated possession and created several promising attacks with Omborenga Fitina, William Togui, Lamine Bah, Franklin Onyeabor and Denis Omedi creating a couple of scoring chances, but their combinations lacked the final touch.

AS Kigali also had notable chances in the first half through Olivier Dushimimana, Janvier Benedata, and Arsene Tuyisenge, but none found the back of the net.

In the second half, APR pushed for a winner with attempts from Omedi, Ouattara, Kiwanuka, Gilbert Mugisha a but goalkeeper Pascal Kanuma stood firm.

AS Kigali threatened late in the match through Aimée Ntirushwa, Tuyisenge, and Jesus Maloko, but they too failed to convert their chances.

Elsewhere, Etincelles and Mukura Victory Sports ended their match in a 1–1 draw.
