Africa-Press – Rwanda. The Representative of the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) to Rwanda has announced that a scholarship competition will be organised in Kigali for young girls and boys.

The aim is to recruit and train aerodrome firefighters at the Regional School of Fire Safety (ERSI) in Douala, Cameroon. The trained firefighters will serve at Kigali International Airport.

Requirements for applicants

Young girls and boys who wish to participate in this competition must hold a secondary school certificate (A2) in science subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mechanics, or Computer Science, or an equivalent diploma.

They are required to present a medical and physical fitness certificate dated within the last three months, valid for the duration of the competition. Candidates admitted after the competition must pass the SIGYCOP aptitude test, issued by an accredited doctor, before entering ERSI.

Applicants must possess a valid category B driving license. Before admission to training, they will be required to obtain a heavy goods vehicle driving license for vehicles over 26 tonnes.

They must be at most 28 years old as of December 31, 2025, have a minimum height of 1.60 metres, weigh at least 60 kilogrammes, and successfully pass the competition.

Interested candidates must register online at www.ersi-asecna.com. The deadline for online registration is May 4. All supporting documents must be submitted from May 19 to June 13.

A complete application must include a certified true copy of the diploma, a notarised copy of the valid driving license, a notarised copy or extract of the birth certificate, a criminal record extract dated within the last three months, a certificate of nationality, and two 4×4 cm identity photos.

Additionally, a medical and physical fitness certificate dated within the last three months, allowing access to the competition.

Only candidates selected from the online registration will be invited to submit their physical documents and take part in the written tests which will be held from 30 June to July 4.

Competition Structure

The competition will include five subjects: Physical Education and Sports (EPS), Car Driving, Mathematics, French, and English.

The EPS and Car Driving components do not have specified durations but carry a coefficient of two each.

Candidates must score at least 8 out of 20 in EPS and 10 out of 20 in Car Driving to avoid elimination. Mathematics, French, and English are written tests, each lasting two hours.

Mathematics has a coefficient of 3, while French and English have coefficients of 2 and 1 respectively. For these three subjects, any score below 5 out of 20 results in elimination.

Candidates who fail the Physical Education and Sports (EPS) test will not be allowed to participate in the car driving test. Those who fail the car driving test will not be allowed to participate in the theoretical exams.

Candidates who pass the competition must also pass the SIGYCOP medical aptitude test (2222332) and present themselves at ERSI with the medical certificate issued by an accredited doctor for the SIGYCOP, as well as the original heavy goods vehicle driving license for vehicles weighing at least 26 tonnes.
