Bugesera vs Rayon game halted amid fans protest as APR move top

Africa-Press – Rwanda. The match between Bugesera FC and Rayon Sports which was taking place at Bugesera Stadium was called off in the 60th minute after the away team’s fans showed their frustration in protested against the match officials’ refereeing decisions.

Rayon Sports were 1-0 down through a Farouk Sentongo opener in the 13th minute when the incident unfolded. The visitors were dictating the pace of the game pushing for an equalizer but they struggled to upfront to get the cutting edge.

They had a free kick in the 53rd minute which was converted by skipper Kevin Muhire into the Bugesera 18-yard box. Abeddy Biramahire controlled the ball and dribbled through a forest of legs of Bugesera players but he was brought down.

Referee Patrick Ngaboyisonga, however, denied the players the opportunity to equalize through what they thought was a clear penalty and, in a quick counter attack, after Bugesera cleared their lines, Umar Abba was brought down in the 55th minute only for the referee ti point to the penalty for the home side which the Nigerian striker converted to make it 2-0.

The match between Bugesera FC and Rayon Sports was called off after fans started to thrown object on the pitch. Bugesera were leading 2-0-IGIHE

The traveling fans around the stadium were so angry that they started to throw objects on the pitch to show their frustrations toward the referees’ decisions chanting “we are fed up; we are fed up.”

The match officials were left with no option but to stop the match citing security issues.

APR reclaim top spot

APR have now move back to the top of the table after beating Gorilla FC 1-0 at Kigali Pele Stadium.

The army side was also awarded a controversial penalty in the 60th minute as referee Jean Paul Ngabonziza pointed to the spot following a supposed infringement in the Gorilla penalty box. The Gorilla FC players protested against the decision to no avail.

Red hot striker Djibril Ouatarra stepped up to send Serge Ntagosanayo the wrong way to make it 1-0.

Gorilla finished the game with 10 men as Mohammed Camara was sent off in the 88th minute for questioning the linesman on a debatable offside against him.

The win saw APR move at the top of the table with 61 points, two clear of Rayon Sports who have 59.

At Huye Stadium, Mukura Victory Sports and Amagaju drew 1-1 in the local derby. Edouard Ndayishimiye converted a penalty in the 37th minute to give Amagaju the lead before Mukura equalized in the 59th minute through Boateng Mensah.

Marines FC also thrashed Musanze FC 3-0 at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu to boost their hopes of avoiding relegation.
