Africa-Press – Rwanda. A fighter jet believed to belong to the Congolese government was filmed live carrying out airstrikes on Minembwe and surrounding areas in South Kivu.

Footage circulated on social media on Friday, April 10, showed a Sukhoi-25 as it reportedly dropped multiple bombs in the area that has suffered government attacks for months. This comes less than a week ahead of a new round of negotiations between AFC/M23 and the DR Congo government in Switzerland.

AFC/M23 spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka said the bombing caused deaths, destruction of property, and the displacement of civilians in the area.

“This act of extreme gravity constitutes not only an unacceptable provocation but also overwhelming proof of the Kinshasa regime’s total contempt for its commitments, for human life, and for any prospect of a peaceful resolution to the crisis,” Kanyuka said in a post on X.

The new round of peace negotiations is scheduled on April 14 in Geneva, where the two sides are expected to discuss humanitarian access in conflict-affected areas, the third of eight protocols to be discussed in the Qatar-mediated talks.

Friday’s bombing is the latest in a series of incidents the movement has attributed to government-allied forces since peace negotiations began in April 2025.
