Finance minister to table proposed 2025/26 budget to parliament

Africa-Press – Rwanda. The Minister of finance and Economic Planning, Yusuf Murangwa, is set to officially present the budget framework paper (BFP), which outlines the proposed spending priorities for the fiscal year 2025/2026 in parliament today.

In January, the government proposed to raise the annual national budget from Rwf5,690.1 billion that was allocated for 2024/2025, to Rwf5,816.4 billion for the 2025/2026 budget, an increase of Rwf126.3 billion.

The proposed increase in the 2025/2026 budget was based on the needs of the previous fiscal year so that they are effectively met.

The Minister of Finance told the MPs at the time that the increase in pension contributions, salaries, agriculture, and infrastructure will account for a bigger share of the resources.

The previous budget (2024/2025) had more than Rwf5,690.1 billion, an increase of 11.2 percent from the 2023 budget.

In current fiscal year, the government has been implementing a budget worth Rwef5,690.1 billion, an 11.2 per cent increase from the prior fiscal year.

It focused on sustaining economic growth, bolster climate change mitigation efforts, and fund crucial investments in agriculture, private sector development, youth employment, energy, ICT, transport, and financial development.

It also aimed at speeding up the implementation of key projects in priority sectors such as health, education, disaster management, social protection, governance, justice, and reconciliation.
