Gicumbi FC head coach Amrani ‘Amoro’ Hatungimana has said that they want to beat La Jeunesse at Mumena Stadium, on Wednesday, to boost their chances of playing Rwanda Premier League next season.

Hatungimana’s side is among four second division teams fighting for two spots which are up for grabs in the Rwanda Premier League. Others include their next opponents La Jeunesse FC, Étoile de l’Est FC and AS Muhanga.

With two games remaining to decide which teams get promoted to the topflight league, Gicumbi FC lead the table with 6 points from four games, one point ahead of Etoile de l’Est and their next opponents La Jeunesse who follow in second and third places with 5 points apiece while AS Muhanga find themselves at the bottom of the table with 4 points.

Prior to Wednesday’s game, Hatungimana told Times Sport that a promotion back to top flight football has always been their target since the start of the season and he hopes his players can go a step closer to accomplish their mission with a win over La Jeunesse.

“We don’t want to drop points in the remaining two games from which we look forward to sealing a place into the top division,” Hatungimana said.

“We need to be consistent and we are confident we can move back to the top division; we don’t have to make mistakes during this game (vs La Jeunesse). We have to make sure that we get maximum points.”

“We have prepared well for the game against La Jeunesse. These matches are tough but we are ready to give 100% because we want to return to top division,” he added.

Gicumbi FC last played topflight football during the 2021-22 season.
