IHF Trophy: Rwanda U20 coach optimistic ahead of Uzbekistan game

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda U20 handball team head coach François Xavier Ngarambe acknowledges that the upcoming match against Uzbekistan will present a different challenge compared to the game against Nicaragua but he remains confident that his boys will up to the task.

Ngarambe’s team delivered a stellar performance in their opening match of the tournament which is underway in Pristina, Kosovo, beating Nicaragua 50-27 on Thursday.

They return to action on Friday, March 14, when they take on Asian champions Uzbekistan at the Palace of Youth and Sports.

“Playing against Nicaragua gave us a clear picture. Our next opponent is a great team, particularly in terms of scoring goals with long-distance shots, which is different from Nicaragua,” Ngarambe explained.

“We are sticking to our plan to win the trophy, as we promised. The opening game gave me a chance to assess all of my squad during the game. So, we are now ready,” he added.

Team goalkeeper Arsene Uwayezu was named player of the match in Thursday’s win against Nicaragua and promised to put up an event better performance against Uzbekistan.

“It’s about continuity. Before reaching Kosovo, we identified the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents in the same pool. We understand that none of the teams representing their continents are easy to overcome. So, we are just going to stick to our plan,” Uwayezu said.

A win guaranteed Rwanda U20 a spot into the quarter-finals of the tournament and beating Uzbekistan could potentially see them face the United States.
