Azam 1-1 Police (4-3 penalty shootouts)

AS Kigali stun APR FC 5-4 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in the normal time of the Inkera y’Abahizi tournament match, which took place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Kigali Pelé Stadium.

Both teams had played a 1-all draw in normal time before going to penalty shootouts which ended 5-4 in favour of AS Kigali.

Prince Rudasingwa scored from the spot to give AS Kigali the lead in the seventh minute after APR FC goalkeeper Yvan Ruhamyankiko fouled Olivier ‘Muzungu’ Dushimimana in the penalty box.

It wasn’t until the 61st minute when APR FC striker Mamadou Sy scored the equalizer, smashing a shot from Fitina Omborenga’s cross as the pair settled for a 1-1 draw. They had to be separated by the penalty shootouts after the normal time ended with a draw.

AS Kigali goalie Pascal Niyonkuru saved Clement Niyigena’s penalty and helped his team win the shootouts 5-4 to record first win of Inkera y’Abahizi tournament.

Meanwhile, Police FC lost to Azam FC on penalties 4-3 both teams played out a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

Alain ‘Bacca’ Kwitonda opened his goal account for Police FC to give them the lead in the 20th minute, capitalizing on Azam FC defenders’ misunderstanding.

Azam netted equalizer in the 37th minute through Tepsi Evence who outpaced Police FC defenders and fired a powerful shot into the net. The Tanzanian side went on to win the tie on penalties 4-3.

The Inkera y’Abahizi matches will continue on Thursday, August 21, 2025, when Azam FC take on AS Kigali, while APR FC will play Police FC. Both matches will be held at Kigali Pelé Stadium.
