Africa-Press – Rwanda. Former APR and Amavubi defensive midfielder Jean Baptiste ‘Miggy’ Mugiraneza has announced that he will appeal the one-year suspension imposed on him by the Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa).
Ferwafa handed Mugiraneza the ban from participating in Rwandan football due to his alleged involvement in a match-fixing scandal in his recent position as the assistant coach at Muhazi United.
“I am waiting for the letter (from Ferwafa) and I will appear. I haven’t received the letter yet, but once it reaches me, I will appeal if I am not satisfied with what I find in it. I am seeing and hearing everything in the media,” he told Times Sport.
Mugiraneza is required to submit his appeal within two days after being notified.
The Ethics Committee launched investigations into Miggy last month after he reportedly asked Musanze FC defender Shafik Bakaki ‘for a favour’ to play soft against Kiyovu so that the latter would win at Ubworoherane Stadium on March 15.
Mugiraneza was allegedly heard in a leaked audio clip promising Bakaki that if he does the deal for him, he would take him to Kiyovu FC next season. However, the player declined the offer and Musanze went on to win 3-0.
In March, Muhazi United suspended Mugiraneza indefinitely due to the scandal.
Match-fixing is a serious offence under FIFA regulations, as it undermines the integrity of the sport.
According to Article 69, Paragraph 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, unlawfully influencing match results can result in severe penalties, ranging from a 10-year ban to a lifetime suspension from all football-related activities, depending on the severity and evidence.
