Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwandan midfielder scored from the spot to help his side Al Masry grab first three points of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage with a 2-1 home win over Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa at New Suez Stadium on Sunday, November 23.
The 25-year-old, joined the Egyptian side from Stade Tunisien in August, started in the midfield and his impact proved evident when he put the home team ahead through a penalty in the 56th minute.
The game has become very physical, with numerous fouls already, and the visitors conceded a penalty after fouling Al Masry player in the penalty box.
Kaizer Chiefs, however, leveled the scores in the 66th minute after Dillon Solomons fired home a shot inside the box to make it 1-1.
The visitors were hoping to return to Johannesburg with a point after centre back Mohamed Hashem had the final say on the match when he scored the winning goal in the 87th minute, capitalizing on a horror piece of defending from Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel.
The match winner sparked mad scenes inside the stadium as Mugisha and his teammates got off to a bright start to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Mugisha has been in fine form for Al Masry as he has been a regular starter under head coach Nabil Kouki.
Meanwhile Fiacre Ntwari missed Kaizer Chiefs’ trip to Egypt as he continues his recovery from a should injury.
Al Masry and Kaizer Chiefs are in Group D alongside Zamalek of Egypt and Zambian powerhouse Zesco United.
