Playoffs: APR sweep Police in Game 1 to lead finals series

Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR Women moved closer to retaining the national volleyball league championship after dominating Police in three sets (25-23, 26-24, 25-20) in Game 1 of the finals held at Petit Stade Indoor Gymnasium on Friday, May 2.

The match started with a high tempo as both teams went toe-to-toe until they were tied 23-23 but APR went on to score the last two points to claim the first set.

The second set was even much closer as Police pushed to bring the game level. Their left attacker, Melidinah Sande Nemali was a big threat to APR thanks to her aggressive attacks.

APR were at the time under pressure and on the brink of losing the second set. But coach Peter Kamasa’s players stayed put and claimed the set 26-24.

Police players looked a bit lost and discouraged after failing to even the game.

Kamasa’s experience and tactical maneuver won his side the first game after taking the third set 25-20.

“This isn’t the end because there is still a long way to go, so we are going to prepare for our next match,” warned Kamasa in a post-match interview.

Police have a tough hill to climb in Game 2 as APR are one win away from retaining the championship.

Elsewhere, Kepler WVC and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) are also battling it out for the third place.

In earlier match, Kepler women edged RRA in four sets (25-15, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21) in Game 1 of the best-of-three series.
