Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda Energy Group (REG) on Wednesday announced the singing of Kenyan outside hitter Nicholas Matui on a two-year contract.
Matui was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Kenyan league in 2024/25 season while playing for his former Kenyan club, General Service Unit (GSU).
Initial reports suggested that REG had secured his services privately but the deal was finalized when the player arrived in Kigali on July 23 to sign the contract.
He was part of the GSU team that took part in the 2025 Genocide Memorial Tournament held in in Kigali in June.
Matui is also a member of Kenya’s senior men’s national volleyball team nicknamed Wafalme Stars. He was part of the final squad that competed at the Zone V Africa Games Qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt, in January 2024 and was later included in the provisional squad for the 2024 African Games held in Accra, Ghana.
His signing comes shortly after REG recruited setter Crispin Ntateteri, as part of continued efforts to reinforce the squad ahead of the new season.
