Rwanda will be looking to break their unwanted winless record against African giants Egypt when the two sides square off in the men’s final of the Africa Sitting Volleyball Championships on Wednesday, July 9.

The final game will take place at Kasarani Indoor Stadium, Kenya, at 5:00pm.

Rwanda has not beaten Egypt since 2009 when they met for the first time. However, team captain Emile Cadet Vuningabo said he and his teammates can change the story and end the African giants’ unbeaten record.

“I believe we are able to change the story and write history in our game. We know it will be tough but we are ready to give everything for this game,” Vuningoma said.

“It is big challenge for sure. It is hard but nothing is impossible and we need to challenge ourselves today. We have never beaten them before but we will give everything to win the game.”

Rwanda qualified for the men’s World Sitting Volleyball Championship after beating Morocco in semifinal match of the African Championship on Tuesday, July 8.

While a tough challenge awaits them in the final, Vuningoma is celebration what the team has achieved so far with the qualification.

“We are happy to qualify for the world championship but we also need to end this story of losing against Egypt, “he said.

Rwanda is currently ranked second in Africa in the men’s category behind Egypt. The two finalists on continental tournament have qualified for the 2025 Sitting Volleyball World Cup in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA and the 2026 World Championships in Hangzhou, China.
