Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR Basketball Club, over the weekend, won third consecutive Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) championship after beating Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 4-1 in best-of-seven finals series.
The army side, led by American tactician James Maye Jr. proved to be stronger than its traditional rivals particularly REG and Patriots, and is set to represent Rwanda at the sixth edition of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in 2026.
Besides APR’s title triumph, the league was also characterised by a number of key highlights in regards to players’ performance for instance.
In this article, Times Sport presents to you some key statistics that characterized the league campaign of 2025.

APR won their record-extending 16th championship, after a thrilling 4-1 series against long standing rivals Rwanda Energy Group (REG). The army side pulled off a powerful performance managing to retain the trophy for the third time in a row.
The 2025 ring joined the club’s trophy collection which included the championship of 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009, 2023 and 2024.

The number of points that APR scored throughout the 2025 Rwanda Basketball League season, making them the highest-scoring team in the league. The duo put up big numbers in terms of scoring that drove the team to the title.
Among other teams that scored many points, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) netted 1947 points, Patriots scored 1776 points while United Generation (UGB) registered 1684 points.

REG point guard Jean-Jacques Boissy finished the season as the highest scoring player with 367 points. The 25-year-old is surely one of the hottest basketball exports of the season, having outscored some of the household names in the league.

APR center Aliou Diarra was named Most Valuable Player of the regular season after registering 326 points, 200 rebounds and 36 assists.

Garba Chingka, who was playing for Orion basketball club, was the king of defense of 2025, finishing the season with 260 rebounds and 36 blocks.

Patriots point guard Elliott Cole registered the highest number of three-pointers, making 54 times in the entire season.
Eric Kayonde, who featured for UGB, was celebrated as the Most Improved Player after a season of 198 points, 97 rebounds, 21 assists, and 17 blocks.
In addition to the key highlights of the RBL, in a historic development, for the first time, both the best defensive and most valuable players of the BAL 2025, came from the RBL.
APR’s Aliou Diarra was named the best defensive player, while his counterpart Jean Jacques Boissy from REG (played for Al Ahli Tripoli at the BAL) was named the most valuable player.
