Africa-Press – Rwanda. The 2025/26 season of the Rwanda Premier League will commence on September 12 and will close on May 24, 2026.
The development was announced in a statement released by the league body on Thursday, August 21.
The league will feature 30 match days, with 16 clubs, including champions APR FC, set to battle for the title.
The league was initially due commence on August 15, but was postponed to later dates on the requests of APR and Rayon Sports who had already planned pre-season friendly matches with foreign clubs.
APR, in particular, suggested delay in league kick-off so they can prepare for the upcoming CECAFA Kagame Cup which will take place in Dar es Salaam from September 2-15.
The 2025/26 season will start after the forthcoming FIFA international break during which the countries will be playing the World Cup 2026 qualifiers between September 1-10.
Meanwhile the Rwanda FA is discussing with Rwanda Premier League on the best dates for the FERWAFA Super Cup between champions APR FC and runners-up (in both league and Peace Cup) which is normally played before the new season kicks off.
According to the calendar of the 2025/26 season, the first round of the league will run through December 14 while the second round will kick off on January 4 and close on May 15, 2026.
The Peace Cup will start in November and the final will take place on May 1, 2026 while Heroes Cup is scheduled for January 28 to February 1, 2026.
