Africa-Press – Rwanda. Our focus lies on victory and earning three points,” said Syvestre Ndayisaba, captain of Gisagara Volleyball Club (VC), as round three of the 2025/26 Rwanda Volleyball National League (RVNL) sees his team face log-leaders Police VC on Saturday, November 1.

The southern-based volleyball giants will enjoy a home advantage as they host the law enforcers at the Gisagara Gymnasium. All matches this weekend will take place at the same venue, with only men’s teams competing as the women’s sides take a break.

Under the guidance of head coach Yakan Laurence Guma, Gisagara VC heads into the weekend in fine form after registering two consecutive victories against East African University Rwanda (EAUR) in their season opener and Kepler VC in the second round. Next up is a strong Police VC side.

According to Ndayisaba, victory in the upcoming clash will depend on how well-structured the team performs and how effectively they execute the coach’s plan. He believes the result could shape their path toward the championship title.

“Last season, Police VC came close to winning the championship, finishing with a bronze medal despite having the upper hand at one stage. They currently top the table with six points, and we are in third place. We know how tough this match will be, but we’re focused on winning,” Ndayisaba told Times Sport.

The captain also highlighted the renewed confidence within the squad, driven by the return of key players, including himself and middle blocker Ronald Muvara, who both rejoined Gisagara VC after spells with Rwanda Energy Group (REG) VC.

“Ronald and I returned to the club we played for over four years before moving to REG VC. Of course, financial stability played a part in our decision, but returning feels like an honour, it’s about bringing back the glory we once achieved,” he explained.

Ndayisaba added that their comeback means more than personal satisfaction; it also brings joy to the local fans in Gisagara, who have long supported them. He believes his partnership with Muvara, alongside other key players, will play a crucial role in restoring the club’s dominance after their 2023 championship triumph.
