Africa-Press – Rwanda. In February, Rwanda is expected to receive 80 to 360 millimeters of rainfall, above the usual 40 to 259 millimeters for the month, according to Rwanda Meteorology Agency.

The forecast heavy rains will be influenced by regional climate patterns that are expected to increase moisture over Rwanda, the agency said.

Regional breakdown

The highest rainfall, ranging between 290 and 360 millimeters, is expected in Western Province, as well as in parts of Burera, Gakenke, Huye, Gisagara, and Nyamagabe districts.

Residents in the City of Kigali, Northern and Southern Provinces, and parts of Rubavu District should expect rainfall ranging between 220 and 290 millimeters.

Meanwhile, the districts of Bugesera, Ngoma, Rwamagana, and parts of Nyagatare, Gatsibo and Kayonza, are expected to receive rainfall ranging between 150 and 220 millimeters.

The remaining parts of Eastern Province are forecast to see the lowest amount of rainfall in February, ranging between 80 and 150 millimeters.

Strong winds and temperature

The agency also warned of moderate to strong winds ranging from 4 to 12 meters per second across the country.

Strong winds of between 8 and 12 meters per second are expected to affect Huye District and parts of Nyanza, Gatsibo, Ngororero, Rusizi, Burera, Nyabihu, Gakenke, and Rulindo.

Other areas likely to experience these strong winds include parts of Kamonyi, Bugesera, Gisagara, Nyaruguru, Karongi, Gicumbi, Kayonza, Musanze, Kirehe, Nyamagabe, and Nyamasheke.

Regarding temperature, the warmest days are expected in the Bugarama plain, the Amayaga region, Bugesera, the City of Kigali, and parts of the Eastern Province. Maximum temperatures will range between 28°C and 30°C.

Conversely, cooler daytime temperatures of 21-24°C are expected in parts of Northern and Western Provinces, including Rulindo, Gakenke, Musanze, and Nyabihu districts.
