Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda has announced the launch of key initiatives and long-term financing strategies totaling over $14 billion to transform and modernize its agricultural sector. The Ministry of Economic Planning and the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources revealed these initiatives during the African Food Systems Forum (AFSF 2026), which concluded on Friday in Kigali.
This comprehensive package includes a framework for investment in sustainable landscape management (2050), a master plan valued at $9.2 billion extending to 2050, with $2.3 billion allocated for the first phase running until 2030.
The package also includes the fifth strategic plan for agricultural transformation (SPA5), which extends until 2029 and requires approximately $4.3 billion, of which nearly 44% will come from private sector investments. Additionally, these initiatives feature a climate-smart agriculture investment plan (2030), which identifies direct investment opportunities from the private sector worth $335.4 million to support over 170,000 farmers.
These initiatives aim to ensure resilience to climate change through funding, among other things, for combating soil erosion and deploying extensive irrigation infrastructure. Rwanda also aims to achieve $1.5 billion in annual agricultural export revenues by 2029, after first surpassing the historic milestone of $1 billion in the fiscal year 2025-2026, while integrating artificial intelligence into the sector.
