Rwanda Suspends New Mineral Trading Licenses

Africa-Press – Rwanda. The Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB) has announced a temporary suspension on the acceptance of new applications for mineral trading licenses, pending a review of the current regulations.

The mining sector regulator said in a statement on Tuesday, June 24 that the move aims to allow the board to review and improve existing regulations governing the mineral trading sector.

“This necessary measure will allow RMB to review and enhance the current regulations governing mineral trading licenses. Our goal is to improve service delivery and strengthen regulatory compliance across the mineral trading sector,” the statement reads.

RMB clarified that the suspension applies only to new applications. Renewals and amendments of existing licenses will continue to be processed without interruption.

The regulator did not specify how long the suspension will last but emphasized that the move is part of ongoing efforts to ensure greater transparency, efficiency, and compliance in Rwanda’s mineral trading ecosystem.
