Rwandan entrepreneurs set for UAE business training next week

Africa-Press – Rwanda. A total of 22 Rwandan entrepreneurs will, early next week, depart for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for training on how to refine their business ideas.

The group consists of entrepreneurs in agritech, fintech and editech. The group, which is expected in the UAE, has just concluded a 10-day course in Israel, according to Israel Ambassador to Rwanda, Ron Adam.

The training was organised by Israel’s Agency for International Development and Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Israel is one of the world’s leading innovative nations…half a million businesses in high-tech pay a quarter of the country’s total income tax, and make 15 per cent of its gross domestic product,” he said.

In addition to learning from their Middle East counterparts on how to scale up their start-ups, Ambassador Adam said they expect Rwandan entrepreneurs to come up with solutions to the pressing challenges in their communities. Israel plans to send another group of Rwandan entrepreneurs for training on the country’s innovation ecosystem next year, he disclosed.

“Over the years, capacity building has been key in the Israel-Rwanda relations, in different sectors such as agriculture, ICT and innovation as well as public health, among others. This initiative is yet another move to cement this good cause,” he asserted.

Beneficiaries speak out

Allen Kendunga, the founder and CEO of Talent Match says it is an opportunity to learn and collaborate with Israel’s entrepreneurs and innovators. “Having an opportunity to be in Israel is an opportunity; an opportunity to learn. It’s also an opportunity for me and my fellow Rwandan entrepreneurs to share our experiences and even form relationships that will help us create a supportive ecosystem.”

For Yussouf Ntwali, Chief Operations Officer and Co-founder of BAG Innovation, an edtech start up, the visit can be leveraged off to learn about how to incorporate a culture of innovation in his business. The start up helps university students perform virtual experiences to gain real work experience, gain points as well as build their career journey.

“Starting up my start-up journey, I read many books about entrepreneurship and innovation and one of the books is the famous Start up Nation. Having the opportunity to finally visit the nation itself is unbelievable.”
