Family is the foundation of our future - First Lady tells RPF Women Congress

Africa-Press – Rwanda. The First Lady Jeannette Kagame has said that the foundation of the country’s future lays heavily on family and urged women to play their role in creating a better and safer environment for this unit to thrive.

She said this on Saturday, November 20 at the Congress of the Women League of the ruling party, RPF-Inkotanyi. The Congress was held at the party headquarters in Rusororo, Gasabo District and was also attended, remotely, by members of the League in Diaspora. The meeting coincided with celebrations of the World Children’s Day, which was marked in Rwanda under the theme: “I am the future”.

Comparing the party to parents who molded and raised many children, the First Lady said that this is an opportune moment to reflect on the values of Umuryango; the family, where a child is the basis and commended the RPF-Inkotanyi for raising many responsible leaders.

“The RPF, Umuryango, has raised many of us; you can compare it to a parent who gives life. As much as we have where we are born from, you need someone to nurture you, to show you direction and the mindset to build and safeguard what you have achieved,” she told the participants.

She challenged the women present to raise ‘Inkotanyi’ leader who are worthy of Rwanda. The First Lady also called upon the women present to play their respective role in safeguarding their families and communities against Covid-19, which she said is still a threat in many ways.

The Secretary-General François Ngarambe urged participants to use the meeting and draw strategies to help the country recover from effects of Covid-19.

“Our country has been severely affected by Covid-19. We are required to put all our efforts into ensuring that we catch up. I am therefore asking you to use this forum to double the strategies that will help us all to pull our country from the effects of the pandemic,” he said.

Ngarambe also commended the growing number of women in the country’s decision-making positions and the role they play in its transformation. During the meeting, different speakers commended the RPF and shared their testimonies on the impact of the party in their lives.
