Peter Malinga Installed as New President of Rotary Club

Africa-Press – Rwanda. The Rotary Club of Kigali Virunga on Saturday, June 7, installed Peter Malinga as its 26th president for the year 2025-2026. He replaces Jacqueline Dunia.

Malinga, a founding member of the club and a seasoned Rotarian of over 24 years, currently serves as a principal socio-economist at the African Development Bank, where he specializes in education and skills development.

In his inaugural address, Malinga outlined his vision, highlighting three key focus areas: youth empowerment, impactful community health projects, and member engagement.

He emphasised the importance of nurturing young leaders through mentorship and joint initiatives like the upcoming Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).

“Today, I take over the mantle of leadership with pride and humility, knowing that this club has shaped me, and now it’s my turn to shape its future,” said Malinga.

“This is not just a title, it’s a responsibility to serve, to inspire, and to build on the legacy of those before me.”

He also committed to prioritizing flagship health projects, including support for the Rotary House for Cancer Patients and initiatives for children with disabilities as well as the Shenge project.

“We are currently 87-member strong, and my goal is to reach 100 committed members who serve with purpose,” he said. “I joined in my late 20s. It’s a space for people who care about community service and want to make a difference.”

The ceremony drew Rotarians, Rotaractors, government officials, friends and families of the members. During the ceremony, new members were inducted.

Rotary Club Kigali Virunga was chartered in 2000 with the dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment of many Rotarians, including District Governor Paul Harris Fellow Suzanne Behle.

Outgoing president Jacqueline Dunia reflected on a year marked by teamwork, innovation, and unwavering dedication to service.

She expressed deep gratitude to the Rotary Club Kigali Virunga members, board, past presidents, and families for their collective efforts in driving impactful community projects both locally and globally.

“As I pass the torch to our incoming president,” said Dunia, “I am confident that under his leadership, this club will continue to thrive.”

“It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Thank you for your trust and support. And for now, let’s support them as we supported each other because it’s not about any one of us. It’s about the collective impact we make in the world.”

Acknowledging the role of key sponsors such as NCBA, MUA, Prime, and others, Dunia commended the partnerships that continue to support long-term initiatives like the Rotary House for Cancer Patients.

Dunia voiced her confidence in the club’s future and its incoming leadership, urging members to offer the same spirit of unity and support.
