Africa-Press – Rwanda. TransAfrica Communications (TrAC), a leading regional Internet Service Provider, has been acquired by Connecting Communities Africa (Connecting Communities), a social impact venture driving digital inclusion across underserved areas.

Founded in 2012 as Axiom Networks with a mission to deliver reliable internet to Rwandan homes and businesses, the company became an international carrier in 2014 and rebranded in 2021 as TransAfrica Communications, signaling its bold regional vision to “Light Africa.”

Today, TrAC serves customers with a dedicated team of professionals, offering wireless and fibre broadband, private networks (VPN), cloud, and data centre collocation services. Its footprint now spans Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Burundi.

In July 2025, TrAC kicked off a new growth chapter with Connecting Communities Africa, a partnership focused on scale, quality, and inclusion. Connecting Communities is setting up its regional HQ in Rwanda, reinforcing the country’s leadership in digital transformation.

Bringing both capital and expertise, Connecting Communities will empower TrAC to expand coverage, boost reliability, and bridge the digital divide connecting more communities than ever before.

Connecting Communities chose TrAC for its reliability, regional reach, and shared commitment to inclusive growth. Together, they aim to extend dependable internet to rural and hard-to-reach communities.

“Our vision is simple, empowering lives through stronger connections,” said Altaf Ladak, CEO of Connecting Communities. “Connectivity goes beyond cables and towers; it’s about bringing people together, helping students learn, businesses grow, and strengthening communities.”

“Reliability has always been at the heart of TrAC,” added Sage Umutoniwabo, CEO of TrAC.

“With Connecting Communities’s partnership, we’ll accelerate our reach, connect more underserved communities, and continue delivering internet that fuels growth, learning, and opportunity.”

This investment will enable expanded coverage into rural and underserved areas, improved service quality with greater network reliability, and the capacity to grow the TrAC team by strengthening local expertise. It also ensures sustained investment in infrastructure and innovation.

Together, Connecting Communities Africa and TrAC are building a future where connectivity powers progress, opportunity, and inclusion for all.
