Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda’s envoy to Algeria, Ambassador Vincent Karega, officially presented copies of his credentials to Algerian authorities on Thursday, August 28, paving the way for his diplomatic mission in the North African nation.
Karega, who was appointed in July, handed over the documents to Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, during a ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters in Algiers.
He is Rwanda’s first ambassador to Algeria with residence in Algiers.
In a statement, Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Minister Attaf received the Rwandan diplomat, who will head Rwanda’s newly established mission in Algiers.
Karega, a former minister and ambassador to DR Congo and South Africa, expressed optimism about the future of bilateral ties with Algeria.
Writing in a post on X, he noted that presenting his credentials “marks the beginning of a new diplomatic mission in Algeria.”
“The establishment of the Rwandan Embassy in Algiers stems from the political will of our two countries to elevate our bilateral and Pan-African relations to the highest level.”
This development follows President Paul Kagame’s visit to Algiers in early June, where he and his counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, expressed their commitment to deeper relations between the two countries.
The two leaders witnessed the signing of 11 cooperation agreements across multiple sectors. It was during this visit that the decision to open Rwanda’s embassy in Algiers was officially announced.
Rwanda and Algeria have cooperation in various sectors, including defence, air services, pharmaceutical industries, and education.
