Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana appointed the New Minister of Health

Africa-Press – Rwanda. The former Director General of Rwanda Biomedical Centre, Dr Sabin Nsanzimana, has been appointed the Minister of Health replacing Dr. Daniel Ngamije who has been serving in the position since February 2020.

An appointment letter from the Office of the Prime Minister signed by the Prime Minister, Dr. Edouard Ngirente, dated November 28 confirmed that Dr. Nsanzimana has been appointed the Minister of Health.

The appointment letter also announced Dr. Yvan Butera, as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health.

Lt. Col. Tharcisse Mpunga was assigned Director General of the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUB), filling the vacuum position held before by Minister Nsanzimana.

Prior appointment, Dr. Nsanzimana was serving as the Director General of the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUB), following his suspension from the Rwanda Biomedical Centre.

Dr. Nsanzimana was a key figure in the control of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He is a Medical Doctor specializing in HIV global management with a Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Rwanda and a Ph.D. doctoral research studies in Epidemiology at the University of Basel, Switzerland.

Dr. Nsanzimana has a vast experience of 11 years in a national HIV program, and senior-level experience in HIV program design, strategic planning, implementation, and operational research with a focus on global care and treatment of people living with and affected by HIV.

He is a fellow at the African Scientific Institute (ASI) and serves as a faculty member for the University of Global Health Equity in Kigali, Rwanda.
