The commemoration event was attended by Primature, Minijust, Mininfra, Rwanda Law Reform staff, and family members of victims among others.

During the event held at the Ministry of Justice offices, Prime Minister Édouard Ngirente, who was also presiding over the event, comforted all survivors in general, as he also highlighted the importance of commemorating-calling it a special way to honour victims who were killed during the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

Ngirente further commended Rwandans on the level reached in terms of rebuilding themselves and their country towards development.

Moreover, he said that the development today shows how far the country has come after being destroyed by the Genocide.

He concluded by calling on people to commemorate while remembering that a better future is waiting for them, as well as to keep on building the country.

The event included also a discussion related to Rwanda’s history before, during, and after the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. It also elaborated on the achievements so far towards reconciliation among others.

Emmanuel Musabyimana, a genocide survivor who worked for Minijust in 1994, pointed out that it was a long journey and a hard one to survive seeing that perpetrators were their workmates, among other challenges.

He concluded by urging Rwandans to keep on embracing unity and fight against the genocide for it to never happen again, as well as encouraging youth to keep the pace of elders for a better future of the country.
