Africa-Press – Rwanda. The M23 rebel group says it is calling on the international community and United Nations Prevention of Genocide, to thoroughly “investigate the ongoing Genocide in Masisi.”
Masisi is a town in the North Kivu Province, based in the Eastern part of DR Congo.

M23’s warning comes just a day after the United Nations condemned the escalation of violence in the same area.
According to the UN, the escalations was a warning sign, particularly in a region where genocide happened in the past.
“The M23 alerts on the ongoing genocide in Masisi and calls upon the international community and United Nations Prevention of Genocide to investigate thoroughly,” the rebel group said in a statement on Friday, December 1.
Civilian population safe
According to the statement, the M23 also condemned “baseless allegations” made against it in Kishishe, citing that it was a manipulation of the citizen in a way to establish the crisis sought by the DR Congo government and its coalition.
“In all areas that the M23 controls, all the populations live in a harmonious collaboration and carry on their businesses as usual without any worries,” the statement reads in part.
“The M23 strongly condemns this practice not only executed by the DRC government and the coalition of FARDC, FDLR, Nyatura, APLCS, and Mai Mai, but also some organizations.”
This is not the first time Kinshasa government is on spot for, among others, demonstrating signs of a possible genocide.
Just last month, when faced with an advancing M23, President Felix Tshisekedi encouraged Congolese youth to form vigilance groups and warned of traitors and bad apples.
Analysts, at the time reacted saying that the DR Congo President’s words could amount to incitement to communal violence.
“The M23 reiterates its undertaking commitment to a direct dialogue with the DRC government, as it believes to be the only way to resolve the ongoing conflict in the Eastern of DRC,” the rebel group asserted, in a statement.
