Africa-Press – Rwanda. President Paul Kagame has consoled children involved in a school bus accident on Monday, January 9, and wished them a quick recovery.
The President tweeted: “I learned about the school bus accident that happened in Rebero this morning. We wish all the children a speedy recovery and we comfort their families.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure that all the children involved in the accident are treated appropriately.”
According to Traffic Police, 25 children, the bus driver and a teacher were injured in the accident that happened at around 8 am.
They were, soon after, taken for treatment at different hospitals in Kigali. No one was killed in the accident.
The bus was coming down a steep road in Rebero when it crashed into a forested area a few kilometres from the school.
The cause of the accident is not yet clear.
Officials at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) said they received 17 people including the driver and teacher.
Most of them sustained minor injuries and one child was to be referred for a surgical operation.
“We hope their condition will improve because they are under treatment,” Dr Tharcisse Mpunga, the Director General of CHUK told The New Times on Monday afternoon.
Nyarugenge District hospital received one child, who sustained minor injuries from the accident.
The child was discharged.
The children were going to begin their second term studies at Path To Success primary school, when the accident happened in Rebero area, in Kigarama Sector, Kicukiro District.
